Setting The Vision
Setting the long term vision and direction for the organisation is the board's most important role. Having a strong sense of the organisation's destination must focus board and management activities. Its 'purpose' is at the heart of that direction. Many organisations have multiple purposes. They may need to balance making a profit with meeting the social and cultural aspirations of their different stakeholders.
Although most of our clients trade commercially and measure themselves against economic indicators, wealth creation is not always seen as the only arbiter of success, particularly as many of the most successful companies are now so much more aware of the so-called ‘triple bottom line’ taking account of their many different corporate and social responsibilities.
The most sustainable organisations often set down the values by which they will operate and the kind of environment they would like to see for the people that work there. We believe that those companies who manage their culture with care, selecting and developing their people in line with their chosen values are the most likely to thrive in the long term.
Portland International provides expert facilitation which is both sensitive and challenging to enable boards to develop their vision, purpose and values and to ensure that these are embedded into the everyday working life of its people – thus giving more meaning and satisfaction to team members who strive to deliver business results.
